[ He chuckled, starting to make his way around. He wasn't going to let something as minor as this get in the way of having a good time, especially now that he'd started to get used to ignoring it. ]

In the mood for anything in particular?

[oh, that's better. She nods her satisfaction, considering.]

Mm, not particularly. Surprise me.

[She studies her nails absently. She's a l w a y s got opinions, but sometimes it's interesting to see what others think.]

[ He's got a little bit of flair about mixing cocktails, and he sets about picking out a few bottles with a flourish. None of these tasted quite like their equivalents from home--actually, some of them were more reminiscent of mouthwash--but he'd done his experimenting in the times he'd taken a turn as bartender. ]

You know how it is with this space liquor. But I've worked up something that's not too bad; pretty close to a Long Island. Least, I think so.

[ He sets the glass in front of her when it's ready with a smile. ]

Hope that hits the spot.

[she has to admit, he's got style. So she'll accept that drink and take a tentative sip, humming her pleasure.]

Not bad at all! You've got a knack for this, it seems.

[she smiles, lifting her glass in a toast.]

[ He had taken out a smaller glass for himself and poured out some of the space whiskey for himself. In response to her gesture he raises his glass in return and smiles. ]

I like to think so.

[she sips her drink and considers, looking amused.]

That could suggest either a long history of alcoholism, or a tendency to play bartender--neither of which has to be mutually exclusive of the other.

I'm inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt, though.

[ He chuckles and sets both of his hands on the edge of the bar. ]

Hey, the person who volunteers as bartender gets to hear all the best stories.

[Well she's looking interested at that.]

True enough, true enough. Heard any good stories in your time?

[more fun than dwelling on space suffering, right?]

Oh yeah, all the time. Seems like people always want to share their first-time-drinking stories.

[executiveassistant]

[She purses her lips, rolling her eyes skyward as if giving that quite a bit of contemplation.]

...Hm.

Nope, sorry, not a story I'd be willing to share.

[ He chuckles. ]

You're smarter than most.

[executiveassistant]

[eyebrow arch!]

Here I'd thought that was obvious.

I had plenty of evidence to go on.

[ He puts the bottles back under the counter and picks his glass back up, content to continue to stand across the bar from her for now. ]

[she is glad that her status of Intelligent Person is not in question here, because they wouldn't be friends if it was--

but she arches an eyebrow at him remaining where he is.]

So, barkeep, work long hours here?

Only long enough to get a second glass.

[ With that, he smiled and topped off his whiskey before coming around to sit beside her. The two glasses would probably do him for the night, considering the fact that he was still contending with a bit of a headache. ]

[that was actually pretty smooth, she's impressed. A nod and she lifts her glass idly.]

Oh good, I have a companion again.

Is the alcohol and good company method of therapy working?

Just what the doctor ordered. Well, not really, but it's a hell of a lot better prescription than resting.

[executiveassistant]

"Resting" is another word for "do whatever you want", as far as I can tell.

So good choice on that.

[ He chuckles. ]

I'm glad you approve, because I like your perspective on that.

[She snorts lightly.]

[she's amused.]

Ah, well, you know, I wouldn't want to deprive you of good company. That's the point, right?

[ It was certainly helping him get his mind off the chaos of yesterday, which had been exactly the point, despite the fact that there was still some thudding pain at his temple.

He takes another drink and turns a little in her direction. ]

So how about you, you managing to stay out of trouble?
